Administrative
Fair:
Many volunteers are needed for this annual fund raiser for the church and school with game booths, garage sale, construction, food court and entertainment. Those who sign-up will receive a questionnaire to indicate their area/s of interest - April 28-30, 2006.

Parish Auction:
Volunteers are needed for both the annual silent and live auction, benefitting our church and school - March 4, 2006.
Liturgy and Prayer
Mr. Randy Arabie
Adoration Chapel Sacristans:
Teams (4th grade through adult) clean the Adoration Chapel on Saturday morning at 8:30 am.

Altar Server Advisor:
Assist in training, care of albs, maintenance of records, and outings.

Altar Society:
Members provide altar supplies and meet on the second Thursday of each month.

Candle Committee:
Volunteers clean and replenish candle stands in church each day.

Church Decorations:
Members assist in decorating the church throughout the year.

Commentator/Lector:
Ministers of the Word serve at liturgical celebrations.

Holy Name Society:
The Society needs the spiritually dynamic person with the love of Jesus to serve where the Church calls. What do we do? When do we meet?

Music: Contact: Cristal Corbett.
  • Cantor: Trained musicians lead the assembly in singing.
  • Chancel Choir: Sing at 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday and rehearse on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
  • Children’s Chorus: (see Youth Ministry)
  • Musician: Trained musicians play various instruments to accompany choirs.
  • Children’s Chorus Parent Volunteers: Help with logistical matters; hang robes; and accompanying children to church.
  • Voices of Mercy: Contemporary Christian music. Open to young adults and high school students. Sings at 6:00 pm Sunday liturgy. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.


Perpetual Adoration:
Adorers commit one hour per week for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament to ensure continuous (24 hours a day, 365 days a year) adoration.

Sacristans:
Sacristans serve as custodians of the church each Monday and Friday morning after the 8:00 am Mass. Four teams rotate on a weekly basis.

St. Anne’s Guild:
Volunteers serve in teams on a rotational basis to straighten books and place envelopes in pews and clean pews and upholstery as needed.

Ushers Society:
Ushers welcome, assist in seating and take up the offertory at Masses and other liturgical celebrations.
Family and Community
Baptismal Seminar Team:
Couples/individuals assist with seminars on Tuesday evenings and baptisms during liturgies two to three times per year. Training is provided.

Family Day:
Volunteers plan and work with games, food and music for this annual Mass and picnic - October 2, 2005.

Family Life Committee:
Parishioners assist with planning and development of the family life ministry by helping to organize events such as the Advent Fair, Grandparents’ Day, Easter Egg Hunt, Date With Your Spouse, and Family Retreat.

Moms & Tots:
Weekly playgroups, field trips, monthly rosaries and evenings out for moms are offered for mothers and their small children.

Respect Life Committee:
Promotes the protection of unborn infants and the elderly by fostering reverence for life and opposing abortion, infanticide and euthanasia.
Parish Health

Parish Health Ministry:
Volunteers focus on the relationship between faith and health through education, counseling, referral to congregational and community resources, health screening, support groups and seminars.

Blood Drive:
Volunteers assist at the annual blood drive each fall which provides parish members with coverage under the group blood assurance plan with Our Lady of the Lake - November 20, 2005.
Social Outreach
Mrs. Corliss Kimble
Bereavement Committee: Members provide support at the time of death and offer services that best fit the needs of the families such as visitation or house sitting.
    Food for Funerals: Assists Bereavement Committee in preparing a dish to be sent to family members of the deceased.
Giving Tree: Volunteers participate in Advent project for needy families and parish outreach. Habitat for Humanity: In conjunction with the Baton Rouge Habitat Community, this ministry is dedicated to the elimination of poverty housing by working with low income families. Skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled volunteers are needed to refurbish or build homes. Manna Givers: Volunteers prepare a "home cooked" meal for the Bishop Ott Homeless Shelter on the second Saturday of every other month. Helping to serve is optional. Mercy’s Military Outreach: Volunteers reach out to parishioners who serve in the military through cards, prayers, and other gestures of support and encouragement. One Child at a Time: “Guardian angels” adopt a high risk elementary school child and meet with the child once a week for an hour, at school. Visits will be of a social nature only with special attention to foster selfconfidence and self worth and help improve academic and social skills. Each child will require two volunteers, one to visit and one to pray for the child. Prayer Line: Members work through a telephone committee and pray for requested intentions. St. Vincent de Paul Society: Assistance is provided to the needy on Tuesday and Friday mornings and visits are scheduled among members on a rotational basis. Group meets on Monday evenings. Visitation / Communion:
  • Earl K. Long Hospital: Laypersons visit and/or distribute Eucharist to Catholic patients.
  • Woman’s Hospital: Laypersons visit and/or distribute Eucharist to Catholic patients.
  • Communion to the Homebound: Eucharist is taken to the homebound of our parish on a weekly basis.
  • Heritage House: Members visit, pray the rosary, assist at parties, prepare for Mass and Communion services and Extraordinary Ministers bring the Eucharist to patients/residents.
  • Our Lady of the Lake Elderly Housing: Members visit, pray the rosary, assist at parties, prepare for Mass and Communion services and Extraordinary Ministers bring the Eucharist to patients/residents. St. Clare Manor Members visit, pray the rosary, assist at parties, prepare for Mass and Communion services and Extraordinary Ministers bring the Eucharist to patients/residents.
  • St. Clare Manor: Members visit, pray the rosary, assist at parties, prepare for mass & communion services and Extraordinary Ministers bring the Eucharist to patients/residents.
  • St. Anthony House: Members provide ongoing support to residents who have been diagnosed with AIDS.
Adult Christian Formation

Adult Christian Education:
Ministry volunteers organize and implement adult Christian education programs for the parish as coordinators, facilitators, catechists, greeters and refreshment servers.

Adult Sunday School Catechists:
A program focusing on apologetics and teachings of the Catholic Church.

Called by Faith:
Women’s Bible Study open to all women in the diocese.

Charismatic Prayer Group:
Meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm in the PAC.

Mission Team:
Help with registration for catechists and/or babysitting.

Re-Membering Church Team:
Volunteers welcome alienated and inactive Catholics back to the Eucharistic Table and to full active discipleship for Jesus Christ.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA):
A faith-journey which leads to receiving the initiation sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation. Open to all unbaptized and baptized adults who wish to explore the possibility of becoming Catholic. Also open to Catholics who have not received all of the initiation sacraments.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Sponsor:Adult parish members serve as a parish sponsor during the RCIA process.

Rosary Makers:
Group members make and distribute rosaries to the missions, other ministries, and others. Meets on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in the coffee shop.

Small Christian Communities: A diocesan based program held at the PAC. Volunteers assist with sign-up and/or serving as
facilitators.

Vocations Committee:
Members promote, encourage and foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life by prayer and holy hours through school and parish religious education programs.
Parish School of Religious Education

PSR - Parish School of Religion:
Teachers and aides serve in the elementary and high school classes. Elementary classes are on Wednesday from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. during the school year and high school classes from 6:15 - 7:30 p.m.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC):
Children (baptized and unbaptized), explore the possibility of being received in full communion with the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. Sessions are held on Wednesday afternoons after school.

Sunday Bible Class:
Volunteers are needed to serve on a rotation basis to teach pre-school age children during the 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. Masses. No experience necessary.

Sunday Nursery:
Parish volunteers serve on a rotational basis by babysitting on Sunday during the 9:00, 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon Masses.

Vacation Bible School:
Assistance needed for craft shop keeper, class teacher, crafts teacher, refreshments, teen volunteer, artist, setting up tents, making simple costumes, and signs.
Youth Formation

Altar Servers:
Those in fifth grade and above assist the priest in Eucharistic celebrations throughout the year.
Training is provided.

Adoration Chapel Sacristans:
Grades 4th and up. (See Liturgy and Prayer section.)

Children’s Chorus:
(3rd - 8th grade) participate in the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Liturgy and various celebrations. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m.

Children’s Liturgy:
Children participate by serving as readers, banner & gift bearers, and ushers at the 9:00 am Sunday Mass.

Scouts:
To join or serve as an adult volunteer.

Youth Ushers:
Welcome, assist in seating and take up the offertory at Masses and other liturgical celebrations.

Youth Group:
Religious, cultural, social and athletic programs are offered to parish youth, grades 9 - 12. Meetings are on 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month at 7 p.m.

Mercy Minors:
Monthly events for those in 7th and 8th grade.
Appointed Ministries
Arimatheans:
Individuals appointed by the pastor assist with funeral Masses by setting up and serving as liturgical ministers.

Confirmation Team:
Team members (teachers) meet with 11th grade students to prepare them for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

St. Matthew’s Guild:
Following Diocesan guidelines, this group prepares collections for deposit.

Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist:
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist are appointed by the pastor to assist the priest during Mass with distribution of the Eucharist.

In-Home Marriage Preparation:
Sponsor couples appointed by the pastor prepare engaged couples for the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony.

Parish School of Religion:
Teachers and Aides serve in the elementary and high school classes on Wednesday evenings.

Youth Advisors:Adult advisors work with Youth Director to plan and implement various activities
for the Senior High and Mercy Minors groups throughout the year.

Peer Ministry Team:
High school seniors assist Youth Director.
Affiliated Organizations
AARP:
Marquette Chapter 4268 open to those 50 years of age and up. Talks on current events, community service projects and fellowship.

Alhambra Hiaya Caravan #135:
Men's charitable group assisting mentally challenged children. Meets on 1st Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.

Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Louis, #1816:
Promote spiritual, charitable, educational, and social activities. Meets monthly at 5:30 p.m.

Cursillo Ultreya:
Open to those who have made or are interested in making a Cursillo weekend.

Knights of Columbus Council #969:
Catholic men’s fraternal organization that fosters religious, civic, charitable and family activities.
Meets on 4th Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m.

Magnificat:
Diocesan organization for Catholic women. Promotes deeper knowledge and love of Jesus Christ, experience release of the power of the Holy Spirit, appreciation and love for Mary, and the Catholic Church.

Melrose East Summer Camp:
Volunteers assist with arts and crafts and sports activities for campers during the summer.
Groups / Activities

Aerobics:
Christian fitness program in the Parish Activity Center offered to all parishioners. Low stress exercise and low impact aerobics on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Apostleship of Prayer:
Recitation of the Daily Offering with the Pope’s general and mission intentions, and encourages consecration of the family to the Sacred Heart. No meetings.

Awake:
Fosters spiritual growth using the “Update” publication with the new Catechism and meets on Wednesdays at 6:45 a.m.

Rosary Groups:
Promote devotion to our Blessed Mother, and pray for peace. Rosary is recited in church at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. on 1st Saturday of the month.

World Apostolate of Fatima:
Devotion to the Blessed Mother through study and discussion groups dedicated to spreading the message of Fatima. Rosary is recited in church Tuesday through Friday after the noon Mass.
